Day 16 of the Pinterest 30 day writing challenge = “ someone I miss” . Another tough one because I’ve lost a lot of people in the last 50+ years.

This is another tough topic because I’ve lost at least 10 people in the last 20 years.

Of Course, I would say my dad who is Jerry, who is my adopted dad who died in the early 1990s.

Then I would have to say the people I grew up with who died at various times in near 40 years.

When I moved to Florida, I went to first grade near our house and a friend of mine her name was Lori . She always introduced me to everyone and sat next to everyone . In high school, she played the clarinet. She always bummed a ride from me after she played in the football games.

My favorite part is that we were Girl Scouts together.always had a line for mischief and waking everybody up in the middle of the night only to be cross by several Florida armadillos. That scared us. We didn’t expect the armadillos to go near our cabin. We thought they were ghosts or giant roaches. We started making up stories about the ghost roaches in Florida died. They were the ones that died after someone stepped on them and they came back to haunt everybody else.

Lori died in a car accident near Disney in 1983? I still shutter because she meant a lot to me it was so shaking to me that I didn’t go to the funeral.

Then there was my friend in the early part of college. Her name is Annette, who was in my freshman year group. We all went to Europe together… My fun memory of her was chasing after all the boys while I watched. She died of lung cancer and that was tough because she smoked and I warned her not to do that . I had an autistic friend who is very high functioning and went to college in my junior and senior year & his name is Bill. And every dance he would mandate that they play Ghostbusters from the 1984 movie and jump for joy at his own special dance that we all ended up dancing together.

I miss my friend Charmin who also died from lung cancer way too early & too soon. We’d eat Chinese food together when I was 15 and 16 and I would get an order because as long as she had an eggroll, I could eat anything I wanted to then.

But most of all and most special with my last two years of college right before I finished my baccalaureate thesis project or senior project. I miss my friend Debbie. She’d tease me about being mother superior and finishing my project . She asked me if I had enough of the spirit and the challenge to finish it.

Best part is that after she died I kind of sort of still keep in touch with her daughters we’ve never met in person but we write through Facebook. It was tough because when she was in a nursing home before she died she told me she was fearless and she had the spirit and the challenge to face this end. I was dealing with my mother-in-law‘s impending death at the same time & that was a rough month in 2005.

I went for my masters shortly after she passed away so maybe she was praying that I can get finished with what I need to get finished with.

There are countless others but these come to mind very quickly..

If I were to write about anyone else, it would be misinterpreted very quickly.

So I took the spirit in the challenge and I actually wrote about people I do miss right this minute.
